Tuesday 17th October

Red Kites are the bird of the day, at least two have been soaring over Islay, one seen by David Jardine at Sanaigmore, 2 spotted by George Jackson at Coultorsay, and Lucy Atkinson saw one at Kilnave.

The Lesser Grey Shrike is still kicking about at Sanaigmore, David Jardine had it in the morning, and it was still there for Jim Duncan this afternoon about 15:30.

I forgot to mention that yesterday (as well as counting 20,514 barnacle geese at Loch Gruinart) Lauren Stewart also spotted a peregrine walking around on the saltmarsh in front of the hides on the reserve. It was still there today at 14:25 with a White-Tailed Eagle sat about 200m away from it too, they didn't seem to mind one another but I guess there's no point fighting when they've got so much to snack on down on the loch!

This evening I had two Chough and two Great Northern Divers at Saligo bay, and I disturbed two Barn Owls on the road by Ballinaby.
