Thursday 12th October

The early birder catches the Shrike! Peter Roberts was the first person to report spotting the Lesser Grey Shrike today at 9am. It seemed to stick around at Sanaigmore  as it was reported there by Gary Turnbull, Ian, Jim Dickson, and James How throughout the day.

Elsewhere on the Rhinns, a brood of 5 Whooper Swans were seen by Malcolm Ogilvie at Ballinaby.

Three White-Tailed Eagles were seen by Andy Bunten on the mud flats at Loch Indaal - presumably they are also celebrating the return of the geese.

The Todd's Canada Goose was at Cornabus again, spotted by Ed Burrel.

The last report of the Shrike was this evening at 17:40 at Sanaigmore by Lucy Atkinson, Lauren Stewart, and Annie Rudd (me!). Incidentally, while we were waiting for the Shrike we also spotted a Great Northern Diver (in winter plumage), a Golden Eagle and a male Hen Harrier around Sanigmore.
