Saturday 14th October

The weather has been a real autumnal mix of heavy showers and beautiful sunshine - hopefully you’ve all managed to dodge the downpours! I however, had a very soggy walk north of Killinallan and saw 3 Great Northern Divers, 1 Golden Eagle, 2 White-Tailed Eagles (tucking into something on the beach), 4 Black-Tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshank, 4 Whooper Swans, 2 Wheatear, and 12 Golden Plover.

Theo de Clermont has also had a busy Saturday, from Kilhoman this morning he saw 3 Swallows and 6 White-Tailed Eagles. North of Portnahaven he saw a Merlin and a White-Tailed Eagle. From Loch Indaal he got 1 Long-Tailed Duck, 1 Slavonian Grebe, 5 Great Northern Divers, about 20 Red-Throated Divers, 2 male and 1 female Scaup, 30+ Common Scoter, and 3 late Common Tern. Finally, from the south hide at Loch Gruinart he saw 1 White-Tailed Eagle and 13 Gadwall.

To round off the day, it was good to hear that the Lesser Grey Shrike is still around, reported by David Dinsley.
