James last night e mailed this pair of sightings...
"I have just been wader watching below Gruinart Farm approx. 6:00pm till 7:00pm. In a flock of black headed gulls on the shore I am pretty sure I picked out a Bonaparte's gull. Slightly smaller, squat appearance single very clear dark spot behind the eye, pink legs very clear and slim black bill. The bird took off with some of the other BHG s and joined a flock below Bun an uillt. Also my first arctic goose – a single Pale bellied Brent Goose below Bun an uillt"
Jim Dickson came over for a spot of birding this weekend and yesterday Jim had seen the following birds....
"At
Kennacraig – no less than 4 Little Egrets. Also 10 Knot, 5 Greenshanks and 45
Sandwich Terns at West Loch Tarbert.
On Islay – a
juv Curlew Sandpiper, 2 White-tailed Eagles, 1 Hen Harrier, 37 Knot, 31
Black-tailed Godwits,73 Barwits at Loch Indaal.
At Craigens, a
Green Sandpiper flushed out a burn, 4 Whinchats and 2 Grey Wagtails., At
Gruinart – James found an adult Bonaparte’s Gull – I think only the third for
Island with last one back in 1975 (Keth Verral)? Also there 1, 600 Dunlin, 218
Knot, 190+ Redshank, Peregrine caught a Sanderling, 8 juv Shelducks, 2 Golden
Plover, 12 House Martin, 1 Sand Martin, several White Wagtail."
Today, Jim, Peter and Lesley had seen the Bonaparte's Gull at Bun an Uillt, but did one better than James as they saw 2 P b Brent Geese!!!!
