James sent this through of some birds seen by him over the weekend. "Not so many birds this time Sparrowhawk, Common Sandpiper, Peregrine and a couple of Otters. Also a large dead Whale floating west at sea, apparently last seen still heading west off Sanaig."
Breaking news... later on this afternoon through from James, the official count for the Corncrakes on Islay came to 44 calling birds. A similar figure to last year I can remember that far back!!!
George E. Jackson e mailed some sightings of "other wildlife" seen yesterday. "Red admirals, Peacocks, Tortoiseshells and Large whites (all butterflies) were the only newsworthy flying things in the garden. Later I counted 205 Greylags scattered among the sheep at Rockside."
Karen Graham sent me through this email today, relating to Terns seen up North by her earlier on "Interesting sighting today on the Cromarty firth near to the Cromarty Bridge. Opposite is a raft especially placed for terns to use as nest site. Common terns using it. If you Google , tern nesting platform Foulis Cromarty Firth, you will find some RSPB articles about it. Certainly in use as the terns could be heard and seen all the time calling away."
