Monday 4th August
Today Ben along with his parents, had headed over to Jura. From the ferry as it crossed the Sound of Islay, they saw a pale morph Arctic Skua flying North. On Jura itself, they had 2 White tailed Sea Eagles, 3 Ringtal Hen Harriers, several Whinchats, Stonechats, Kittiwakes and Gannets too. Later on they headed down to the Oa where they saw a further 4 Chough, a Fulmar but the Golden Eagles proved elusive! The other day, Paul Graham had a Red Grouse over at the Duich Lots. George back on the 31st had counted 21 Arctic Terns including 4 juvenile birds down at Bruichladdich. Today, the number was well down with only 1 adult and 2 juvs being seen, so George believes that they had headed South. In the ploughed field behind his house, there were 40 Lapwings present, no doubt on the lookout for food.
