If the Swallows had not flown away overnight, I think they would have been washed away instead, another dollop of over an inch in the past 24 hours, some catch up time!!! Just as well that I kept some sightings back from yesterday... Tom and Jo had seen the following at Gruinart, on the reserve itself, 7 Whoopers, 10 Golden Plover, 20+ Lapwing, 1 ringtail Hen Harrier, 2 Snipe, 1 Treecreeper and 2 Snow Geese along with over 170 Greylags. This morning the Snow geese were still present with the Greylags, but by mid morning, when I got over they had gone, but I counted 43 Lapwings...anyway it was raining... but this evening we caught up with them at Coull where they were with the Greylags present there, they had black primaries as they took off and looked the job! Also at Coull, was a male Hen Harrier, close to where we were parked up. David one of the vols at Gruinart had a count of 13 Barnacle Geese flying in earlier on this evening, and also 17 Pink footed Geese at the head of Loch Gruinart as well.
