Saturday 1st September

Well, another month has passed, and the rainfall figure for August was 4.9 inches.. There was a dampness last night, with the net result being that I doubt if any of the farmers cut any harvest today.
"JD" is over for the week and had a great spot, seeing a Mediterrean Gull down at Blackrock this morning. Out on Loch Indaal from the same viewing point, he saw  3 GND, a Slavonian Grebe, 2 Great Scaup and also 48 Common Scoter. Up at Gruinart, he saw 18 Knot and also a Greenshank. Gary had been down and saw the Med. Gull as well as 2 Chough just inshore. Distillery Dave saw a Peregrine round at Saligo this morning, and up here at home, mid afternoon the Sparrowhawk flew over the bird crop and then around 15 minutes later, it returned and dropped down into the crop, but when it reappeared, it was not carrying anything. A moment or so later it dropped back into the crop again, and when it reappeared it was not carrying anything the second time either.
