Tuesday 19th May

Rather a tousy sort of a day out here, and yes, there was a shower with some hailstones late afternoon, not the weather we expect in May!!! Yesterday, the Bowland birders had Grasshopper Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Willow Warbler, male Whinchat, Whitethroat and Dabchick at Loch Tallant. Up towards Mulindry, they saw an adult White tailed Sea Eagle being harassed by Hooded Crows, causing it to drop its' prey. Further on, above Knocklearach they saw a Golden Eagle and also a solitary Golden Plover. 2 spotted Flycatchers, male Bullfinch, male Blackcap, Wren and Treecreeper were seen on their walk out from Islay House square through the Bridgend woods. This afternoon, we had 2 Cuckoos being chased by Meadow Pipits, one was between Torra and Red Lodge on the Laggan Bridge, the other was at the lime kiln above Gortan and before Foreland House. We also saw a cracking male Hen Harrier just before we came to Torra, and better still only 20 metres away at the most, no need for the bins...
