Friday 15th May

The rain came exactly 13.00 as forecast, not a lot but you would have got wet if you were out in it... better still, it saved having to get the watering can out to the plants... Peter Donaldson had headed over to Colonsay for the day on Wednesday and had heard a Corncrake and then saw one close to Upper Kilchattan, coming back to Port Askaig on the ferry, Peter had GNDs, Tysties and Guillemots. On Thursday, up at Ardnave he had 20 Chough with a superb Hen Harrier down at the former Kilchoman school, a pair of Ravens at Coulererach and then 2 Corncrakes calling in the reedbed leading to Machir Bay. Thanks Peter for your birds while you were here. The RAFOS team had been down on the Oa on Wednesday where they saw Hen Harrier, Twite, Grasshopper Warblers and many Wheatears. Over at Claggan Bay, they had RTD, GND, Arctic Terns and Common Sandpipers. Yesterday, they had seen a White tailed Sea Eagle up past Ballygrant, Corncrakes calling at various locations, at Killinallan, Little Terns, Arctic Terns and Sandwich Terns were added to their tally. A Grey Plover was seen at Killinallan Point. Spotted Flycatchers were seen by them back at their cottages over at Kilchoman. James also had one at Mill cottage at Gruinart.
