Friday 30th May
Another good day with the weather again, so no complaints! The Rochdale birders had been over at Loch Ballygrant yesterday and had seen an Otter there. Also out on the loch was a Red throated Diver which was calling away and fishing too. In the trees a Tawny Owl was there. Over at Foreland, on the other side of Islay they had a Barn Owl and then later on another Tawny Owl. On the guided walk at Gruinart yesterday, Emily had seen a Redpoll, 2 Cuckoos, Reed Bunting, and a "perched" Peregrine. Later on Emily was out Corncraking during the "wee small hours" and had a Barn Owl out hunting over the reserve and then she heard a Water rail over at Loch Gorm, close to the phone box there! This evening we saw a Cuckoo being chased by a Meadow Pipit along at Foreland.
