Wednesday 8th October
Another dry day, but not as warm, so had to look out a jersey to work outside... Yesterday down on the guided walk on the Oa, Emily had seen 2 Golden Eagles including a juvenile bird, 2 Chough, 5 Barnies heading out over to Ireland, 5 Buzzards, juv Peregrine and a Merlin. Dave had been out and about on the Oa yesterday and he saw a juv White tailed Sea Eagle, 3 Golden Eagle, 2 Chough, a Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk and 3 Goldcrest. Today Dave had a Brambling down on the Oa. Today, Bob had seen several flocks of Redwing up behind Port Charlotte. 200 Lapwing were seen at Loch Gorm with a female Pintail in front of the old hide, a Pinkfoot and 2 Canadas along the flats amongst the Barnies. James had a count of the Barnies tallying through at 6,530 Barnies, 115 Greylags, 1 Pinkfooted Goose, the large Canada Goose was still present. He also saw a Hen Harrier, a Sparrowhawk and a Peregrine all in flight over the reserve. Forgot to mention the other day that there was a Buzzard being mobbed/ zapped by 2 Peregrines, here at home, coming out from the crag, the Buzzard must have had eyes on top of its' head as several times it dropped a wing to avoid being struck. Eventually it took the hint and flew away from the Peregrines.
