Friday 5th September

It might have started of a miserable looking day this morning, but slowly but surely the grey skies disappeared to give us a glorious afternoon, and as I write this entry, the sun is streaming in through the windows and what a sunset we are going to have this evening... George earlier this week had seen 2 Sandwich Terns down at Bruichladdich and he was telling me that the 2 Moorhens on his ponds still have their 3 youngsters. Mandy e mailed some sightings through from some visitors. Last Sunday they had seen a Little Egret out past Ardbeg, up at Bridgend, an Osprey was spotted, perched on a rock. In the garden of the cottage where they were staying in at Port Ellen they had Siskins and also Goldfinches. On Thursday close to the hut circles, "An Sidhean" on the reserve at Gruinart they saw a Merlin, along the flats they saw a a male Hen Harrier while up at the mouth of Loch Gruinart, an Osprey and also a GND were added to birds for the week. Today just out of Port Charlotte, on Loch Indaal, they had some Red breasted Mergansers.
