David Mason sent through this image of a Roe Deer with her offspring taken the other week while he was up here on holiday. You can view some of David's images on www.davidmasonimages.com I feel myself that I have seen more Roe Deer with twins this year compared with other years. The Siskin was back on the feeder at the kitchen window as were the Greenfinch and Great Tit families. One or two of the Rowan trees out in front of the house which had taken a battering with those strong winds a few weeks ago have burst out with some fresh growth, as have some of the Ash, but not much sign of any other buds bursting at all, it looks more like the trees in the Autumn, no beautiful colours, just all a drab brown with shrivelled leaves, most of which are off the trees already.

Fri 1st May

This image of a Roe Deer hind and her calf was taken yesterday. A friend later told me that he had never seen a calf as early as this in the year, to the best of his knowledge.

Later on I saw 5 Red Deer hinds on Foreland and they looked massive in comparison!

Sun 22nd Feb

It's the weekend, and that means that Michal has had some time out with his camera. So, here is a Roe deer caught in camera. Also today, Michal had seen some frog spawn while he was over at Loch Gorm.

James had 385 Skylark in one flock over at RSPB Gruinart reserve, a good number, but he has had larger flocks at other times. There were also 32 Twite, which for Gruinart is quite a high figure, not like Louise count of 190- 200 had on the Oa as reported earlier on this week.

Fri. 15th Feb.

Another great day weather wise, so could not resist going for a walk... We saw and heard Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Blackbird, Wren, Stonechat and Meadow Pipit. We also saw Red and Roe Deer hinds. When stopped for a well earned rest and a cup of tea, we watched a Golden Eagle soaring on the thermals. Lots of geese to be seen all over the island, and here at Kilchoman there is an increase in the number of Greylag Geese on the fields. MAB

Sat 23rd/ Sun 24th June 07

An evening walk on Friday, up the River Sorn from Bridgend was very productive. First of all was the Otter, 23 Pipistrelle Bats, along with 3 Daubenton's Bat, not bad going! A dipper was seen, as was 2 Woodcock and 2 Barn Owls. Several Roe Deer were also observed. It was on this walk last year, that a Sparrow Hawk was seen taking a Pipistrelle Bat! P.T.B.
On the way back from Port Charlotte, this afternoon, a snipe flew across the road in front of us, a Golden Eagle was close at hand, no need for the bins for an ID, and 14 Curlew on a silage aftermath field. I.K.B.
