Thursday 5th May

This morning, Michal had a female Sparrowhawk in the trees out in his garden! The Gropper (Grasshopper Warbler) and the Sedge Warbler were in their usual spots. Stuart, one of the farm staff  at Gruinart had heard a Corncrake calling away, out from the Visitor Centre. Later on, Michal had seen a Woodcock as he headed home this evening. This morning, we saw 5 Dunlin and 6 Ringed Plover in a newly sown barley field at Rockside while in another barley field directly across the road, 3 Canada Geese were there along with 30 Greylag and 5 Shelduck, round at Ballinaby, there was a group of 24 Golden Plover and finally this morning, the Leigh birders had a Sedge Warbler down in the scrub willow on the march fence between Coull and Rockside. Here at home this evening, we had 6 Swallows out on the wing, possibly a sign that Summer is here now....
