Sunday 1st May

Forgot to wash my face in the dew this morning, not that there was much anyway! The rainfall last month only came to 2.4" and some folk are already talking of a wet June and July.....

James today had a pair of Garganey on the floods out in front of the hide at Gruinart. The other day when coming back to Islay on the ferry, he had seen 2 Sandwich Terns and 5 Great Northern Divers. Bob had a day at home, but a good day for all that, a Kestrel, a male Hen Harrier, 1 Peregrine, 2 juvenile Golden Eagles out on a thermal, and also 6 Whimbrel. Some visitors up from Yorkshire commented on the number of Wheatears they saw today, and also seeing Golden Plover in summer plumage, a sight they are not used to seeing.
