Sunday 22nd October

It was a perfect day for eagles and they seemed to be everywhere today. Neil McMahon was treated to two Golden Eagles at the Oa, and one more south of Storacaig. Steve Percival had a White-Tailed Eagle at Coull Point; Mark and Alison Cockburn also had a White-Tailed at Ardnave Point; and I saw another one flying over the Sound of Islay.

Non-eagle sightings around Islay include Ed Burrell’s Jack Snipe at Cornabus. Martin Armstrong had a Brambling and a female Greenfinch at his garden in Glenegedale – the second spotted in the Islay gardens this week! The first was a male spotted by Malcolm Ogilvie on Thursday. Mark and Alison Cockburn had Hen Harriers (1 male, 1 female), 12 Chough, 25 Twite, and three small Canada Geese at Ardnave. A small Canada Goose was also spotted by Steve Percival at Loch Indaal today. Neil McMahon had a Great-Spotted Woodpecker and fifty Siskins at Skerrols, and Brambling and Twite at the Oa. I also had about 35 Twite on the west side of Sgorr nam Faoileann, as well as a family of six Ravens, a Kestrel, and a dramatic display of a Ringtail being mobbed by a pair of Hoodies. All in all, a beautiful day for weather and birds!
