Monday 16th October

There’s been lots of news from all around the island today – thanks everyone for posting your sightings on the WhatsApp group or sending an email.

Theo de Clermont is still on the island and is keeping us well up to date with his sightings. This morning at Loch Gorm he had a juvenile Long-Tailed Duck and 25+ Tufted Ducks. In the afternoon he had 5 Scaup, 2 Long-Tailed Ducks, 2 Slavonian Grebes, 2 Goldeneye, and 2 White-Tailed Eagles at Loch Indaal.

Mary Redman had a White Tailed Eagle and a male Hen Harrier at Claddach Loch, then a Sparrowhawk hear the house and a Peregrine out towards the coast. Yesterday she had a Merlin at Currie Sands.

Mary-Ann Featherstone reports from the Battery: 1 Grey Heron, a pair of Red-Breasted Mergansers, 3 Oystercatchers, 2 Herring Gulls, and 14 Common Seals. She also has good news from Seal Bay: Islay’s loneliest Curlew has finally made a friend!

Here at Loch Gruinart our Barnacle Goose count came back at 20,514.
