Friday 20th April

Another great day over here, makes up for all the poor days we had back in December and January...
Visitors had been over on Jura and had seen 2 male Hen Harriers about 20 feet apart! A Merlin was seen too, at Tarbet they had a Chiffchaff and the heronry with 5 nests occupied. Back on Islay they had a Woodcock and also a Snipe. On Wednesday, "uncle Sandy" said that he thought that he had heard a distant Cuckoo down at Foreland, today Malcolm heard it there too. Here at home we had our first Swallow of the year, another visitor had a Corncrake down at the reedbed at the Coastguards' this morning. Other visitors had a pair of Tufted Duck on Ballygrant Loch, another pair along at Loch Allan and also a Goldcrest in the Ballygrant woods.
