Sunday 15th January

Some sightings in from Peter & Pia from the last few days. On Friday, they had a second winter Glaucous Gull round at Ballinaby. Also there was a young Heron seeing off a Buzzard who had laid claim to the remnants of a Pheasant! Yesterday they had 45 Ringed Plover and 35 Dunlin resting up along the beach between Taigh an Luig and Uiskentuie, with 20 Turnstone on the spit itself. Back closer to Uiskentuie, the 2 sub adult Glaucous gulls were still present. Today, between smelly corner and Blackrock, they had a second winter Iceland Gull. Yesterday, David had a day "off reserve"! He had 5 Glaucous gulls in all, 2 at Laggan Point, 2 at Uiskentuie and also one at Bowmore, also at Laggan Point were 1 Long tailed Duck and 2 Great Northern Divers. From Bowmore a scan over Loch Indaal produced the following, 8 Long tailed Duck, 20 Red breasted Merganser, 8 Slavonian Grebe, 20 Eider, 14 Goldeneye, 8 Great Northern Diver, 25 Common Scoter and 170 Scaup.
