Thursday 11th October

A day of rain and more rain, at least 1.75" have fallen since last night and that is not over a 24 hour period, possibly 20 hours if that, needless to say, not a lot of birdwatching was done today, perhaps the visitors went on a Distillery tour instead. John Wilson had 33 Scaup down on Loch Indaal, and just the back of 5pm we had a count of 43 Whoopers down in one of the fields beside the Coastguard cottages. Thinking back to last week, while I was up the gully following the burn back up the hill, I came across 3 different Rock Doves which the Peregrine had nobbled of late. This backs up my belief about the Rock Dove numbers falling as the year moves on, their flock drops in size, and they fly quicker too... the Peregrine just sits atop the crag waiting for his chance...
