Sunday 11th March

A funny old day over here today, yes it has been milder but the mist kept coming and going for most of the time... James saw a couple of Pink footed Geese amongst some Greylags along at Sunderland Farm this morning, earlier on he had a Merlin on the reserve at Gruinart. We had gone down round the loop from Port Charlotte to Portnahaven and returning back by Kilchiaran, in the hope of an early Wheatear. No joy, but at Cultoon, there were 3 different male Stonechats. Yesterday, Bob had a pair of Moorhens on the old Distillery pond up behind Port Charlotte, further on along the road he saw 3 Kestrel. Today between Bowmore and Gartbreck, he had a count of 1 Great Northern Diver, 2 Slavonian Grebe, 34 Shag, 3 Cormorant, 3 Pale bellied Brent, 17 Shelduck, 11 Mallard, 56 Wigeon,80 Teal, 12 Red breasted Merganser, 6 Goldeneye, 160 Oystercatcher, 86 Curlew, 120 Bar tailed Godwit, 34 Dunlin, 4 Knot, 10 Redshank, 31 Turnstone, 2 Lapwing, 52 Ringed Plover, 12 Grey Plover and a female Peregine to finish the day off!!! The Lapwing were displaying away, great to see.
