Friday 10th May

Another miserable sort of a day out here, if only it would be wet through the night and dry through the day, not a lot to ask just move the clock around a bit, problem solved. Net result is that not much birding has been done. Last night before heading upstairs to bed, we went out for a quick Corncrake listen, possibly a bit windy and also early enough in the month but we gave it a go. We managed to hear 3 different males calling, one down towards the Machir Bay, one out towards Coull and another at Rockside. Down at the reedbed there was a Sedge Warbler "singing" if that is what you could call it! Overall, quite pleased, early days yet for the corncrakes to be heard. This morning over at Ballinaby there was a small group of Golden Plover, with 16 Ringed Plover and 6 Dunlin in another field. Further along the road towards Saligo Bay, there was a young black rabbit out. Finally in the field where the Little Ringed Plover was last week on Coull Farm, this morning 2 large Canada Geese were present.
