Monday 17th October

Just as well I have some sightings through from Carl and Peter, as it has not been a day for birding really. We have had steady rain for most of the day, with it drying up around 6pm. Think most of us found inside jobs! On Saturday morning Peter had seen the American Wigeon over at Gartmain, down on the Oa there were 2 Golden Eagles aerial sparring over the cliffs at Upper Killeyan. Up at Lyrabus a Sparrowhawk was chasing after Twite, Linnets, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting. Early evening from the hide at Gruinart there were 22 Black tailed Godwit and also 25- 30 Lapwings. Yesterday there were over 80 Scaup off Blackrock, up at Bunnahabhain there were a couple of Red legged Partridges on the foreshore. Down at Frenchman's Rocks, there were a few Gannets, Common Guillemots and Kittiwakes (20-30 of each) in the afternoon. Carl had been over at the Singing Sands on the Oa yesterday, with a good number of Kittiwakes feeding, a Peregrine flew past while he was there too. A few Shags were out fishing , with some very tame Hooded Crows working the shoreline!
