Friday 5th July

Some sightings in from some folk who are over on Islay on holiday this week....

Karen, David and Daniel Wrigley from Hitchin in Hertfordshire had heard 2 Corncrakes calling when down on the Oa on Monday, but did not manage to see them. Yesterday, they watched an Osprey fishing it at Finlaggan. It had also been annoying the Oystercatchers there as well...

Yesterday afternoon, Sandra and Ian Hardy had seen a male Golden Oriole down towards Avenvogie.

Friday 25th May

This morning, Dave down on the Oa saw a female Golden Oriole. George, Bob, Margaret and myself went over later this afternoon, but no joy, that's bird watching for you, but on the other hand we did see a Swift! The other great thing today, again was the weather, 25 degrees, no complaints in that department....Rob headed home today but in his week's stay he has had 111 species in all, finishing off today with the Barnies at Blackrock, a Dipper on the Sorn at The Woolen Mill, also the Grey Wagtail while the Siskins were on the feeders. Needless to say Rob was well pleased. Yesterday Andrew had walked out to Soldiers Rock on the Oa and had a Golden Eagle. On nests were Fulmar and Shag and 30 Guillemots were seen too.
