I also spoke to Ian on other visits and always remember my first encounter with him. Someone told me that the man to see for knowledge of birds in Islay was Ian Brooke, I recall tentatively knocking on the door just to ask about the Choughs, Ian opened the door and within minutes there I was a complete stranger in the kitchen chatting and Mrs Brooke serving up tea and cake. What a greeting to the beautiful place and lovely people to have known.
